1. The Ultimate Goal

The objective of Shanghai Mahjong Solitaire is to completely clear all 144 tiles from the board.

2. Identifying a "Free" Tile

You cannot simply click any tile you see on the board. A tile is considered locked if it is buried under the stack or wedged tightly between others. To select a tile, it must be "Free" (or open). A tile is legally free if it meets two strict conditions:

• The Top is Clear: No other tile is resting even partially on top of it.
• An Outer Edge is Open: It must have either its left side OR its right side completely open to empty space. If a tile is blocked on both its left and right sides, it cannot be selected, even if its top and bottom borders are completely clear.
