3 Pyramid Tripeaks
TriPeaks (also known as Three Peaks, Triple Peaks, or TriTowers) is a popular and fast-paced solitaire card game. It combines elements of traditional Pyramid Solitaire and Golf Solitaire, requiring you to clear a mountain range of cards by matching them sequentially.
🏔️ Game Setup & Layout
- The Deck: Played with a standard 52-card deck (no jokers).
- The Peaks (Tableau): 28 cards are dealt face-down and face-up to form three overlapping pyramids (peaks), each 4 rows high.
- The bottom row of the peaks exposes 10 face-up cards, while the upper rows remain face-down.
- The Stock (Draw Pile): The remaining 24 cards are placed face-down at the bottom to form the stock/draw pile.
- The Waste (Discard Pile): One card is drawn from the stock and placed face-up next to it to start the waste pile.
🕹️ Core Rules & Mechanics
- The Objective: Clear all cards from the three peaks onto the waste pile.
- Playable Cards: You can only move an exposed (open) card from the peaks to the waste pile. A card is open if no other cards are overlapping or covering it.
- Sequential Matching: A tableau card can be moved to the waste pile if its rank is exactly one higher or one lower than the current top card on the waste pile, regardless of suit or color.
- Example: If a 7 is on top of the waste pile, you can play either a 6 or an 8.
- Turning the Corner: Ranks wrap continuously. You can play an Ace on a King or a King on an Ace ($K \rightarrow A \rightarrow 2$ or $2 \rightarrow A \rightarrow K$).
- Revealing Hidden Cards: As soon as a face-up card is removed and uncovers the overlapping cards beneath it, those newly revealed face-down cards automatically flip face-up and become playable.
- Using the Stock: If no moves are available from the peaks, you can draw a new card from the stock pile onto the waste pile. In classic rules, you only get one pass through the stock.
💡 Strategy & Pro Tips
- Build Long Chains: Try to alternate your matches to create sweeping ladders (e.g., $5 \rightarrow 6 \rightarrow 7 \rightarrow 6 \rightarrow 5$). Long chains without drawing from the stock pile are the key to maximizing your score and clearing tricky boards.
- Expose Hidden Cards Early: Prioritize moves that uncover face-down cards over simple matches, as opening up the board gives you more options and prevents dead ends.
- Keep an Eye on Intersections: Pay close attention to the cards where the peaks overlap. Clearing these shared bottleneck cards usually unlocks multiple paths upward.
- Conserve Your Stock: Avoid drawing cards from the stock pile if you still have playable moves on the peaks. Save your deck cards for tight spots where no sequential matches are available.
